The Quick Sip
Organic Rooibos Tea
Rooibos translates from Afrikaans as Red Bush and has long been drunk in South Africa. It is a fine herbal for those seeking a naturally caffeine free alternative with a high level of antioxidants. Its health promoting benefits have brought the beverage some long overdue accolades. Our high grade organic Rooibos yields a dark red, round cup and has a mildly nutty, sweet finish.

Although the first mention of Rooibos by a Westerner was by botanist Carl Thunberg in 1772, the Khoisan people of South Africa were by that time were well aware of its health promoting benefits and had been using it for generations. The Dutch settlers to the Cape took on Rooibos as a welcome alternative to expensive black tea, a luxury for those relying on supply ships from Europe. In 1904, Benjamin Ginsberg, a Russian settler to the Cape and descendant of a prominent tea family saw the potential of Rooibos and began a brisk trade with the local Khoisan people harvesting it. He was the first to import Rooibos into Europe using his family tea business contacts. During the Second World War Americans drank Rooibos as shipments of tea were prone to being interrupted.
