The Quick Sip
Ceremonial grade Matcha prepared and packed in Japan in elegant cans sealed for freshness. Made by steaming, drying and grinding top-grade green tea into powder. Prepared by adding hot water and whisking into a foamy sweet-vegetal mixture of an intense green colour. Since one literally consumes the leaf in place of a liquor brewed from tealeaves, antioxidant levels conveyed are very high indeed. Net weight 30g.
Tea Tales
Matcha in its earliest form was used by Chan (Zen) Buddhists in Song dynasty China and brought over to Japan by the monk Esai in 1190. With the Mongol invasion of China, much of the elegance of Song dynasty China took a back seat, and the use of powdered tea in ceremonial rituals was forgotten. Fortunately it remained in Japan.
