Tea Tales

Cloves have long been a key ingredient in the preparation of spiced tea and drinks, but like many spices used to be exorbitantly expensive. They first found their way west from the Spice Islands (today part of Indonesia) to the Middle East and Europe well before the time of Christ. While they lamented the size of their spice bills, the ancient Romans prized the mighty clove and used it liberally. Much later, even in 17th and 18th century Europe, cloves were literally worth their weight in gold.
